Abstract

It is not merely parents or guardians that should lavish attention on minors, butalso all institutions of public life, in particular state institutions. The area where the needto protect the child should be particularly advocated is the area of media broadcasting.The Audiovisual Media Services Directive of the European Parliament and of the Counciladdresses the issue of protecting minors from the negative impact of such communications.This problem is highlighted as a vital component of the European Union regulatory policyin the audiovisual sector, which needs, now and in the future, to safeguard certain publicinterests, including the protection of minors, and raising public awareness and medialiteracy in general. The directive supplies standards of protection that member statesshould implement by enacting appropriate legislation. Considering the aforesaid, theypose a challenge to laws and legislators in member states.Keywords: minors, institutions of public life, Audiovisual Media Services Directiveof the European Parliament.
